This is a sample protocol. Adjust it so it works for your home environment and for what supplies you have available
- Watch a handwashing video
- Have your direct support staff call before the start of each shift.
- During the call, ask staff to report out body temp and answer screening questions.
- Use hand sanitizer in car before putting on mask. Touch only the edges of mask and/or the straps.
- Instruct staff to enter home as usual, and MIND WHERE THEY TOUCH TO DO SO.
- Instruct staff to immediately clean or sanitize what they touched to enter.
- Inform staff where they can find the cleaning/sanitizing supply and have this handy by the door, and specify the location.
- Instruct them to clean/sanitize things like:
- screen door lever (inside and outside)
- knob (both inside & outside),
- entry keypad
- door jamb
- side of door
- anything else they touched to enter the house.
- Instruct them to NOT bring in mail (separate protocol for this)
- When cleaning/sanitization is complete, go to kitchen to wash hands using hand washing protocol. Here is what a sample hand-washing station looks like.
- Instruct staff to follow the handwashing instructions to remind them of the steps -- making sure to also wash their wrists.
