Interview Questions to Assess Staff Risk

Here are some questions you can ask your current staff members to weigh in how much risk you would like to take -- and some suggestions depending upon your level of vulnerability.

INTERVIEW STAFF BEFORE EACH SHIFT
Their situation may have changed!

Have they traveled lately? — if yes, cancel the shift for 14 days to see if symptoms arise. If no symptoms arise by the end of that period, then they may start work.

Which crowded places have they been to lately? — if restaurants, school, sporting event, theater — anywhere a lot of people have gathered. Was it very busy? How close were they to other people?  If yes, cancel the shift for 14 days to see if symptoms arise. If no symptoms arise by the end of that period, then they may start work.

What date did they last visit that place? — take the last day of potential exposure and delay the shift 14 days from the date they started to isolate.

Have they been in the presence of anyone who has been coughing, feverish or short of breath? Is that person normally short of breath? -- if yes to any of these, ask if they are still in the presence of this person? If yes to that, then cancel the shift until further notice. If no to all three, then then cancel the shift for 14 days to see if symptoms arise. If no symptoms arise by the end of that period, then they may start again at that time.

How are they feeling?

Have they been educated about all the prevention practices?  — if no, then assemble those and send links by email. Ask them to complete the training and get back to you.

Have they been implementing the prevention protocol since they were last exposed? — if no, send educational materials by email and cancel the shift for 14 days to see if symptoms arise. If no symptoms arise by the end of that period, then they may start work. Ask them to demonstrate the skills when they come to work.

Do they rely on and use public transportation to get to you? — if yes, then cancel the shift unless they can secure a ride until further notice. Do not reinstate a shift until 14 days until after they have stopped using public transportation AND have shown no symptoms.
