Additional precautions are necessary for a high-contact, high-risk population. Here are what nursing homes are doing in regard to staff.
Take Temperature before Start of Shift. Use thermometer with a sleeve or other barrier that can be thrown away after use. Sterilize handle of thermometer between each use. If staff's temperature is over 99°F, send home care staff home sick. Consider taking staff temp while staff is standing outside.
More Frequent Hand Washing. Do this each time before touching client. Have lotion on hand to soothe dry hands.
Uniforms. Have scrubs on hand. Train staff to change into scrubs. Place street clothes in bag and place bag outside. Have single-use method for uniforms, dispose in covered bucket.
***Launder on sterilization (hot) cycle on 133° F or higher.
Wear Gloves when touching client.
***Wash hands BEFORE touching and putting on gloves.
Wear Goggles that seal against your face. (Not just glasses)
***Wash hands BEFORE touching and putting on goggles.
